Advice from Dad
Bible: Proverbs 3:1-7
Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding (V.5).
After I got into a difficult situation with one of my friends, I prayed, asking for God to help me work out what to do. But when weeks went by and nothing seemed to get any better, I started to get fed up. “Don’t You know how important this is?” I asked God in frustration. Why wasn’t He answering my prayers?
When I talked to my dad (who has often reminded me to believe God’s promises) about the situation, he said, “I want you to get to the point where you trust what God says.” My dad’s advice reminds me of Proverbs 3. This bit of the Bible was just right for my situation: “Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways submit to him, and he will make your paths straight” (PROV. 3:5-6). To “make [our] paths straight” means God will guide us towards His goals. And His goal is that I become more like Him, no matter what I’m going through or struggling with.
This does not mean that the paths He chooses will be easy. But I can choose to trust that His direction and timing are for my good. Are you waiting on God for an answer? Choose to spend time resting with Him and trust that He will guide you.
YOUR FATHER IN HEAVEN KNOWS WHAT’S BEST FOR YOU.
