Guilt’s Trip

Guilt’s Trip

Bible: 1 John 1:5-2:2

I will forgive their wickedness and will remember their sins no more (HEBREWS 8:12).

Can you think of anything that’s too hard for God to do? Or imagine one of your friends came to you saying they’d done something terrible and couldn’t imagine God forgiving them. What would you say?

In one article on forgiveness, the writer talked about a teenager who was having a hard time believing that God could forgive her for the things she’d done wrong. She told him she was a Christian and had asked Jesus many times to forgive her. Even though she knew the Bible says God had forgiven her, she still felt dirty in her heart.

This girl thought she had found something that was too hard for God to do—forgive her. When we tell ourselves that our sin is so bad God won’t forgive us, we’re doubting His power. We are stopping ourselves from enjoying the gift of a fresh start with God (1 JOHN 1:5-10).

Are you struggling with guilt? Is it taking over your life? God’s forgiveness is not based on what you do or what you have done. It is only based on what Jesus did on the cross. If you really want God’s forgiveness, He will forgive all of your sin. His offer is for all of us; we just need to thank Him for it.

Thinking it over . . .

If you’re struggling to believe God could forgive you for something you’ve done, take some time to think about these verses: Psalm 32 and 51; Ephesians 1:3-8; and Colossians 1:13-14.

GOD FORGIVES. SO IT’S TIME FOR US TO FORGET.
