Starting Small

Starting Small

Bible: Zechariah 4:1-14

Who dares despise the day of small things? (V.10).

When Zerubbabel was told to rebuild God’s ruined temple, one of the first things he did, with the help of God’s people, was lay a foundation. Then they began building on that foundation, stone by stone. Many of the people laughed at those small steps and “the day of small things” (ZECH. 4:10).

Yet God promised Zerubbabel success, not by his own might and strength, but by God’s. I recently read about a teenager who wanted to help the many homeless people in his home town. He decided to go around his community, knocking on doors to collect old or unused blankets, which he then gave to people living on the street. The following week he made another collection.

Others soon followed his example. As a result of that first small act, an organisation was created that gives blankets to homeless people around the world. Do you want to make a good difference in your school or your friends’ lives? But don’t know where to start? Don’t forget how important it is to start small. Like that teenager, start helping people one small act at a time. You’ll soon see that a little is a lot when God is in it.

Thinking it Over…

Who can you look out for today? Or what small act could you do to show Jesus’ love in your school?

THE SMALLEST ACT IS BETTER THAN THE GREATEST PLAN.
