Secure Harness

Secure Harness

Bible: Hebrews 11:1-16

Now faith is confidence in what we hope for and assurance about what we do not see (V.1)

As a youth leader, I organised a trip to an obstacle course. The youth group put on the safety gear and climbed a massive wall. The ones who went first turned back to encourage the next climbers to keep going and to trust their harnesses. One of the teenagers stared at the wall as we tightened the belts and buckles around her waist. “There’s no way I can do this,” she said. Reminding her of the security of her harness, we quickly prayed with her and then shouted our support as she climbed up to the top.

When facing problems that seem too big to handle, worry and stress can fill our minds with doubts. But the certainty of God’s unchanging strength, goodness and love creates a strong harness of trust. This confidence helped many different Bible characters keep going during tough times. They lived out an unstoppable trust in God. A trust which meant they no longer needed to know every detail of God’s plan, or how things were going to work out. They just needed to know Him (HEB. 11:1-5).

We can change the way we handle our challenges. We can remember they won’t last forever—but God’s love for us will (VV.13-16)! Focusing only on our problems at school or the choices we have to make with our friends can stop us from trusting God. But knowing He’s with us, we can rest in the harness of His love and faithfulness.

What I’m Thankful for…

Jesus, thank You for being our safety harness. You will never let us go.

WE DON’T NEED TO KNOW EVERY DETAIL OF GOD’S PLAN— WE JUST NEED TO KNOW GOD
