Through the Cross

Bible: 2 Corinthians 4:8-18

[Nothing] will be able to separate us from the love of God that is in Christ Jesus our Lord (ROMANS 8:39)

It’s much easier to focus on our problems than on God’s love. This is the same no matter what the problem might be. Whether it’s too much homework, or a really serious illness, it’s hard to look past them.

But Paul’s life was an example of looking at everything ‘through’ the cross. He talked about hard times as being “persecuted, but not abandoned; struck down, but not destroyed” (2 COR. 4:9). He knew that in the hard times, God is at work, “achieving for us an eternal glory that far outweighs them all. So we fix our eyes not on what is seen, but on what is unseen” (VV.17-18).

To “fix our eyes … on what is unseen” doesn’t mean we ignore our problems. It means that we have confidence in God, even when things are hard. By keeping our thoughts on the cross where Jesus died for us, we can remember how much He loves us. Even today. Even during this problem. And we can know that He who died for us will never leave us.

Jesus gave His life for us. His love is deep and sacrificial. As we look at life through the cross, we see His love for us in every situation. And our trust in Him grows.
