Remember
Bible: John 2:13-22
After he was raised from the dead, his disciples recalled what he had said (V.22).
Jesus’ friends remembered—and then they believed. After the death of Jesus on the cross and His resurrection, they finally understood Jesus’ words: “Destroy this temple, and I will raise it again in three days” (JOHN 2:19). If our relationship with Jesus is to grow and deepen, we too need to remember the cross and the empty tomb. Jesus has given us a way to keep remembering what He did for us: communion. We take bread and wine with other Christians “in remembrance of [Him]” (1 COR. 11:24). Every time we drink from the cup and eat the bread, we remember what it cost Him to save us and make us God’s own children.
Not that we should focus on the past only—we should also keep our eyes on the future. We are to take part in communion “until he comes” (V.26). The One who died for us also came back to life. As we remember Jesus’ sacrifice and His resurrection from the dead, we also look forward to the new life we will also get after we die. We will live in Jesus’ home with Him forever! As we remember Jesus’ death and resurrection, our trust and confidence in Him are strengthened. Let’s remember!
What I’m Thankful for…
Thank You, Jesus, that You have done everything to save me, make me part of Your family and give me a place in Your home after I die.
IN LIFE AND IN DEATH, JESUS IS OUR CONFIDENCE.
