Waiting Expectantly
Bible: Psalm 130:1-6
I wait for the Lord more than watchmen wait for the morning (V.6).
Reading
I often wait. I wait for answers to prayers or for direction from God when I need to make hard decisions. Although I don’t know the exact time my wait will end, I’m learning to expect God to answer.
In Psalm 130 the writer talks about struggling through a situation that feels like the blackest of nights. In the middle of his troubles he chooses to trust God and stay watchful—like a guard on duty who is looking for the new day to come. “I wait for the Lord more than watchmen wait for the morning, more than watchmen wait for the morning” (V.6).
The expectation that God’s faithfulness will break through difficult times gives the writer reason to keep waiting on God. Even though he hasn’t seen God act yet, he is confident in the promises found in the Bible that God will look after His people. Are you in the middle of something really hard? God’s rescue is coming— either in this life or in heaven! In the meantime, don’t give up on waiting for God, but keep watching for what He will do. He will be faithful.
To Pray About…
Father, please help me through my problems and stresses. Open my eyes to see You at work and to trust You. I’m thankful that You are faithful.
