What’s Really Important
I pray that the eyes of your heart may be enlightened (V.18).
Ephesians 1:15-23
Reading
So much of what we pray for has to do with what we see around us. We talk to God about school problems, things we want to change, wanting to make new friends and all sorts of things like that. And that’s all good. We should pray about those things.
But when Paul talked to God about the Christians in Ephesus, he didn’t go over all their more obvious, day-to-day needs. Instead, he asked that they would be able to see and understand God’s truth more clearly (1:18). He was asking God to give the Ephesians understanding about their life with Jesus: the hope they have in Him, the good things God had promised for the future and the power of God that was at work in them (VV.18-20).
These unseen things are a big deal because the better we understand them, the better we’ll see this world, and our problems, for what they really are. Understanding the certainty of our place in heaven, and everything we have because we belong to Jesus, will help us have a healthy perspective on everything we go through. It’ll also stop us being too distracted by the stuff around us, like what people think of us, how many likes we’re getting online or what clothes we can afford. Let’s ask God to open our eyes so that we can focus on what’s really important: everything God has done for us and given us in Jesus!
WE WON’T MISS WHAT’S REALLY IMPORTANT IF WE SPEND TIME READING THE BIBLE
