Hope in Grief

Hope in Grief

We are to God the pleasing aroma of Christ Then their eyes were opened and they recognised him, and he disappeared from their sight (V.31). those who are being saved (V.15).

Luke 24:13-32
Reading

When I was nineteen, one of my close friends was killed in a car crash. In the following weeks and months, I walked each day in a tunnel of grief.

The pain of losing my friend so unexpectedly clouded my vision. At times I felt totally unaware of what was going on around me. I was so overtaken by pain and grief that I simply couldn’t see God.

In Luke 24, two of Jesus’ friends, confused and broken-hearted after His death, didn’t realise they were walking with their resurrected friend Himself, even as He explained from the Bible why the promised Saviour had to die and rise again. Only when Jesus took bread and broke it did they see it was Him (LUKE 24:30-31). Although Jesus’ friends had seen death in all its horror when He died, when He came back to life, God showed them how to hope again.

Like Jesus’ friends, we might feel pain, confusion or sadness is taking over. But we can find confidence and comfort in the truth that Jesus is alive and at work in the world—and in us. Although we still face problems and loss, we can ask Jesus to walk with us in our tunnel of grief.

As the Light of the world (JOHN 8:12), He can help us look beyond today to the bright future ahead of us.

To pray about . . .

Lord Jesus, thank You for being with me in my pain. Help me to remember everything You have promised me when I’m sad and confused.

EVERY CHILD OF CHRIST, SMELLS LIKE HIM.
