Hope in the Darkness

Hope in the Darkness

I will refresh the weary and satisfy the faint (V.25).

Jeremiah 31:16-26
Reading

At the beginning of the Coronavirus outbreak, news was circulated about one Dr Li Wenliang an ophthalmologist at Wuhan. He had tried to warn his medical colleagues about the potency of the virus and the detrimental effects it could have. But his warnings were not well received, and a few days later he contracted the virus himself and died.

Dr Li Wenliang reminds me of Jeremiah. He too served kings who didn’t listen to his warnings, and his country was attacked. However, while Dr Li Wenliang died without knowing the impact of his warnings on humanity but Jeremiah found the strength to keep going. What made the difference?

Jeremiah knew the God who offers us real, confident hope in the future. “There is hope for your descendants,” God had promised Jeremiah. “Your children will return to their own land” (JER. 31:17). Although Jerusalem was destroyed in 587 bc, it was later rebuilt (SEE NEH. 6:15).

At some point, we all find ourselves wanting to give up. It could be a bad exam result, an illness or family trouble. But when life knocks us down, we can still look up—God is still in control! He holds us in His hands, and His promises stay the same.

WHEN WE KNOW JESUS,WE CAN ALWAYS BE CONFIDENT ABOUT THE FUTURE.
