Jupiter Falling
In him all things hold together (V.17).
Colossians 1:15-23
Reading
One time, while we were studying the planets at school, I bought a model of the solar system. I tried to put it up in my room so that it hung from the ceiling. After what seemed like hours of trying to get all the bits to hang together, I was dizzy, fed up and tired. That evening, I heard a clink as Jupiter hit the floor.
I’ve sometimes thought about how my flimsy model fell apart, yet Jesus keeps the actual universe going. “He is before all things, and in him all things hold together” (COL. 1:17). Jesus holds our world in His hands, including the natural laws that rule the galaxy. He also “sustain[s] all things by his powerful word” (HEB. 1:3). Jesus is so mighty that He keeps the universe in order simply by commanding it to be so!
As amazing as this is, Jesus is more than the ‘caretaker’ of our universe. He “gives life and breath to everything, and he satisfies every need” (ACTS 17:25 NLT). While Jesus sometimes gives us what we need in ways we might not expect, He always keeps us going whether we are broken- hearted, struggling with school work or facing family troubles.
Until the day we’re with Jesus in heaven, we can trust that just as He keeps Jupiter from falling, He’ll hold us up as well.
What I’m thankful for . . .
Loving Father, please help me to trust you to take care of me today, tomorrow and forever!
THE GOD WHO KEEPS THE UNIVERSE GOING , KEEPS ME GOING TOO!
