Winners

Winners

In all these things we are more than conquerors through him who loved us (V.37).

Romans 8
Reading

I’m very competitive! Who doesn’t like winning?! So then, when I read that Christians are “more than conquerors” (ROM. 8:37), it sounds pretty exciting. But what does it actually mean?

Paul begins Romans 8 by retelling how, in His grace, God sent His Son Jesus to pay the penalty for our sins (VV.1-3). He goes on to say that Christians also have the help of the Holy Spirit as we fight against our selfishness in our daily lives (VV.4-17). Paul then talks about Jesus’ unfailing love (V.35). Some stuff we go through may make us feel like giving up, but in all situations we are conquerors and winners because nothing can “separate us from the love of God that is in Christ Jesus our Lord” (V.39).

When I was a teenager, I had to go through a really harsh punishment because of something I did wrong. I was forced to kneel on the thorny skin of a durian (a large, spiky Asian fruit). I became angry and bitter. But when I heard about God’s love for me and I put my faith in Jesus, He not only forgave my sin but taught me to forgive others. I slowly stopped living in selfishness and anger. I began to discover that “we are more than conquerors through him who loved us” (V.37).

Because of Christ and His love for us, we are winners!

NO MATTER WHO WE ARE, WHAT WE’VE DONE OR WHAT WE’RE GOING THROUGH—WE’RE WINNERS WITH JESUS.
