Limits

Limits

Who gives them sight or makes them blind? Is it not I, the Lord? (EXODUS 4:11).

Matthew 6:1-18

Do you look at your friends and classmates and feel like you don’t have much to offer? Are they better at sports, music, art and all your other classes? If you feel limited compared to the people around you, don’t give up! Instead of worrying about what everyone thinks of us, we can give our every problem, limit and concern to God. We need to remember that He made us, just as we are—in His “own image” (GEN. 1:26). And the Bible gets even more specific than this. In Psalm 139, David praises God for making him in the womb and planning out his days (VV.13-16). God has made each of us in this personal way; even the stuff we don’t like about ourselves is part of His plan for us.

Just think about Moses who struggled with some kind of speech impediment. When he tried to use this as an excuse not to obey God, “the Lord said to him, ‘Who gave human beings their mouths? Who makes them deaf or mute? Who gives them sight or makes them blind? Is it not I, the Lord? Now go; I will help you speak and will teach you what to say ” (EX. 4:11-12).

We might not like how we look or what we can do. We can be quick to hush up our limits—but God gives them great value. He chose them for a reason. We can use them to honour Him and show others something of His love.
