Do You Mind
Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind (V.37).
Matthew 22:34-40

In recent years we have all become very aware of maintaining a ‘3-meter gap’ between individuals in social places. However, the government also places reminder in public places for our benefit. Why do we need so many reminders for something that seems like it should be obvious? Maybe it’s because, during our daily routines, we often don’t actually use our brains in what we’re doing. When we’re on auto-pilot like this, silly mistakes start happening.
Could this be a problem in our relationship with God as well? When Jesus was asked what the greatest commandment was, “Jesus replied: ‘Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind’ ” (MATT. 22:37). Our minds are to be as involved in loving God as our hearts are.
In one book on Christian leadership, the author said: “When it is so easy to get our thinking done for us, the big temptation is not to think.” Instead of engaging our minds as we worship and serve God, we follow familiar, predictable routines. Instead of thinking creatively about ways to live out our love for God, we get comfy doing and saying the same things as always. Thinking is hard work, but loving God is an exciting adventure that deserves all the mental muscle we can put into it!
To pray about . . .
Father, I want to love You with all my mind. Help me to think about new ways to show my love for You in my quiet times with You, my daily life, my church and when I’m with friends and family.
TO GROW IN YOUR LOVE FOR GOD, KEEP GOD IN YOUR THOUGHTS.
