What Now

What Now?

We do not know what to do, but our eyes are on you (V.12).

2 Chronicles 20:1-17
Reading

During the years that I was part of a big, busy youth group, I used to say (as a bit of a joke) that my prayer before our meetings was 2 Chronicles 20:12: “We have no power to face this vast army that is attacking us. We do not know what to do, but our eyes are on you.”

When Judah’s King Jehoshaphat spoke those words, it was a matter of life and death. As huge armies marched against Jerusalem, the people of Judah met together to ask for God’s leading and help (V.13). During worrying times of trouble and change, we need to ask, “God, what do You want to do with this moment?” And like King Jehoshaphat, we should begin our prayer with praise to our powerful and loving Father in heaven (VV.5-9).

God told the king and his people: “Do not be afraid or discouraged . . . For the battle is not yours, but God’s. Tomorrow march down against them . . . the Lord will be with you” (VV.15-17). In stressful, confusing times, we might ask a worried “What now?” But if we turn to God and trust in His care, our anxiety can be replaced with peace.

Thinking it over . . .

Father, thank You that You already know everything I am facing and will face. I know You are with me and will guide me through.

WHEN WE DON’T KNOW WHAT TO DO, THERE’S ONLY ONE THING WE NEED TO DO: TALK WITH GOD.
