The Perfect Father
Though my father and mother forsake me, the Lord will receive me (V.10).
Psalm 27
Reading
Standing in the crowded shop aisle, I struggled to find the perfect Father’s Day card. Although we’d made up after years of silence, I’d never felt close to my dad.
The girl next to me groaned and shoved the card she’d been reading back into the display. “Why can’t they make cards for people who don’t get on with their dads, but are trying to do the right thing?”
She stormed off before I could answer. So I prayed for her. Thanking God for showing us that only He can be the perfect Father, I asked Him to help me improve my relationship with my dad.
I want to get to know my heavenly Father better too. I want King David’s confidence in God’s power and protection (PS. 27:1-6).
When David cried out for help, he expected God’s answers (VV.7-9). Even though our parents may make mistakes or let us down in some way, David understood God’s unending love would never fail (V.10). He relied on God’s goodness (VV.11-13). Like most of us, David sometimes struggled, but the Holy Spirit helped him keep trusting and relying on God (V.14).
Like the girl in the card aisle, we’ll have some difficult relationships to manage. But even when people let us down or hurt us, we’re still completely loved and protected by the only perfect Father.
What I’m Thankful for…
Dear God, thank You for being a Father we can always count on.
GOD−THE PERFECT FATHER−WILL NEVER LET US DOWN, LEAVE US OR STOP LOVING US.
