Tone Check
Let your conversation be always full of grace, seasoned with salt, so that you may know how to answer everyone (V.6).

There are spell checks and grammar checks for you to use when you send emails. But did you know there’s tone checks out there as well? These apps go through your wording to flag up anything that might come across as unkind or aggressive!
When I noticed a friend using a tone check app on his phone, I wondered what it would be like to have something like that for my mouth. How many times have I spoken without thinking! Or interrupted someone without really listening to them. A tone checker would have stopped me from being so harsh and unkind.
Paul saw the need for us as Christians to check how we talk—especially when talking to non-Christians. He wrote, “Let your conversation be always full of grace, seasoned with salt, so that you may know how to answer everyone” (COL. 4:6). He wanted our words to be an example of Jesus’ love and kindness. He wanted every part of our lives, including how we talk, to be an invitation to know God.
Talking with a gentle tone, especially to those who still don’t know Jesus, is a great way to give an example of Jesus. Colossians 4:6 can be our tone checker!
To pray about…
Father, please help me to be patient and kind in how I speak. Show me how to make You known in my conversations today.
EVERY TIME WE SPEAK, WE HAVE THE CHANCE TO SHOW JESUS TO WHOEVER’S LISTENING.
