The Wall

The Wall

He himself is our peace, who has made the two groups one and has destroyed the barrier, the dividing wall of hostility (V.14).

Ephesians 2:11-22
Reading

Have you ever been to Hadrian’s wall? I loved walking along its ruins recently and reading about its history. Did you know that as many as 18,000 Roman soldiers guarded this 80 mile long barrier between England and Scotland?

Roman Emperor Hadrian is remembered for building a physical wall to keep people out. But Jesus is remembered for breaking down a spiritual wall to let people in.

Not long after Jesus returned to heaven, the Jewish and non-Jewish Christians in the early church were struggling to get along. So Paul told them that, through Jesus, they were all equal in the family of God. “He himself is our peace, who has made the two groups one and has destroyed the barrier, the dividing wall of hostility . . . His purpose was to create in himself one new humanity out of the two, thus making peace . . . For through him we both have access to the Father by one Spirit” (EPH. 2:14-15,18).

One of the best things about being a Christian is the big family we are part of. No matter where we’re all from, in the church we are all brothers and sisters. Through His death on the cross, Jesus has removed any barriers and has brought us together in true friendship and love.

What I’m thankful for . . .

Thank You, Father, for bringing me into Your family. Thank You that this family has no barriers.

THERE IS ONLY ONE FAMILY OF GOD. AND EVERYONE IS INVITED.
