Where’s Your Path Heading

Where’s Your Path Heading

Give careful thought to the paths for your feet (V.26).

Proverbs 4:14-27

Reading

An Austrian man gave away his £4.7 million (roughly 22 crores) fortune after realising his money and his spending sprees were actually stopping him from being happy. He explained, “I had the feeling I was working as a slave for things I did not really want or need. It was the biggest shock in my life when I realised how horrible, soulless and without feeling the ‘five-star’ lifestyle is.” His money now funds charities he set up to support people struggling in poverty.

Proverbs 4 tells us to also think about our path in life and the direction we’re headed in. It compares the “path of the righteous” which shines brighter every day (V.18) with the “way of the wicked” which is dark and confusing (V.19).

“Take hold of my words with all your heart; keep my commands, and you will live” (V.4). “Guard your heart, for everything you do flows from it” (V.23). “Give careful thought to the paths for your feet and be steadfast in all your ways” (V.26). Each of these verses encourages us to think about where we are in life, what really matters and what we’re trying to become.

None of us want to end up feeling empty and alone. But that’s exactly where we can end up, even if we get rich like that Austrian man. We need to ask God for His direction and follow Him with everything we’ve got.

YOU ARE HEADED IN THE RIGHT DIRECTION WHEN YOU WALK WITH GOD.
