Not Fair

NOT FAIR

He is the Rock, his works are perfect, and all his ways are just (DEUTERONOMY 32:4).

 Psalm 19:7-14
Reading

When I played cricket at school, the thing we heard most on the pitch was the cry of, “That’s not fair!” Whether it was to do with the umpire’s reaction to no ball, or the coach’s training drills he made us do, there was always at least one person saying “Not fair.”

So much of life makes us want to say “Not fair” to God. Perhaps your family is full of fights, while other families seem to completely love each other. Maybe your friends are busy playing sports and living life while you or someone close to you is dealing with serious illness. Or it could be as simple as how popular and happy everyone else seems compared to you.

When life feels unfair, we need to go back to this basic truth: we are not the ones who decide what’s fair and what isn’t. That’s up to God. And He knows far more than we do about His plans and why He does what He does. The question isn’t about fairness. In the end it’s about having confidence in a trustworthy God who knows what He is doing. “He is the Rock, his works are perfect, and all his ways are just” (DEUT. 32:4). Life will never look fair. But when we trust God, we can know that He is faithful and will bring us through everything.

To pray about . . .

Father, when things are unfair, please help me to trust You to keep me going. I know You are good and faithful. Thank You that You will make all things right when Jesus returns.

LIFE IS NOT ALWAYS FAIR, BUT GOD CAN ALWAYS BE TRUSTED.
